Our Story

Our company was founded by Sami Owen in 2020 who was a student immigrant. He was studying Business Information Technology at LAB (LAB-ammattikorkeakoulu) University of Applied Sciences, Lahti, Finland. At the beginning he was experiencing the cultural shock, was struggling with both studies, and adopting to Finnish culture and all. He was stressed and depressed. There were no friends as he was a shy person and was not good at making friends. As an IT (Information technology) student he produced the idea of creating a platform which helps all the students who struggles settling in and studying in Finland. ‘Uni Friend’ is not only a friend who helps you in studies, it helps you by guiding, advising, and helping you to adopt to the Finnish culture and reduce disappointments and misunderstandings. 

 

‘Uni Friend’s main objective is to help and guide students (specially immigrant students) with their studies. Sami wanted to help specially immigrant students those who struggle to learn in a unique environment with new friends. This is a platform where you can make new friends in a more comfortable way. Sami does not want others to feel the same way he did when he was stressed and depressed in an alienated society. So, he created a slogan ‘A friend in need’ which is suitable for the platform very well.  

 

As an IT student it was easy for Sami to create a platform for ‘Uni Friends.’ But when it comes to marketing, he had to come across a lot of problems. Fortunately, he met a friend called ‘Eranga’ who is the co-founder of ‘DiViC;’ a platform which helps small business owners to increase their target market through short videos. This was like a blessing to Sami. He logged into their platform and selected a content creator (a student) who did a remarkable short video (tik tok) on behalf of ‘Uni Friends.’ That was the turning point of Sami’s platform and during six months he got an outstanding number of immigrant students who willingly uses his platform. His rates are low as most of the customers are university students and now, he is offering good rates for those who contribute to ‘Uni Friends’ by supplying study contents, guidance, and online sessions.  

 

There are students who have successfully completed their degrees and settled down in Finland thanks to ‘Uni Friends.’ We are keeping a ‘Blog’ which is full of heart touching stories of immigrant students those who have eventually succeeded. We are improving day by day. Updated content is added regularly. Our clients are increasing, and the management team is trying their best to support all the students who seek our support.
